Throttle Body: Removal

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
CAUTION: The throttle body bore and plate area have a special coating and cannot be cleaned, or damage to the throttle body may occur.

    All engines 

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly and air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  3. NOTE: The red clip must be pulled out before disconnecting the electrical connector.

  4. Disconnect the electronic throttle body (TB) electrical connector.
  5. NOTE: The red clip must be pulled out before disconnecting the electrical connector.

  6. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
  7. 5.4L engines equipped with a heated TB 

  8. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  9. Disconnect the coolant hoses.

  10. All engines 

  11. Remove the bolts and the TB.
    • Discard the TB gasket.
