Oil Pan: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD - 4.6L  or INTAKE MANIFOLD - 5.4L .
  3. Remove the fan shroud and the engine cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  4. Loosen the 2 bolts and position the generator aside.

  5. Remove the retainers and the shield.

  6. Release the wiring retainers from the heater outlet tube bracket.
    1. Release the knock sensor electrical connector retainer.
    2. Release the engine harness routing clip retainer.

  7. Disconnect the hose from the heater outlet tube.

  8. Remove the heater outlet tube studs.

  9. Remove the heater outlet tube.

  10. Remove the two transmission-to-engine bolts.

  11. Assemble the special tools.

  12. Install the special tools.

  13. Install the special tool and support the engine.

  14. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
  15. Remove the nut and position the transmission fluid cooler tubes and support bracket aside.

  17. Remove the four engine mount nuts.
  18. Remove the flexplate inspection plate.

  19. Using the special tool, raise the engine 10-1/4 inches from the crankshaft pulley to the lower edge of the No. 1 crossmember.
  20. Remove the bolts and partially lower the oil pan.

  21. NOTE: Oil pan is removed for clarity.

  22. Remove the bolts retaining the oil pump screen cover and pickup tube and let the bolts drop into the oil pan.
  23. Remove the oil pan at the rear of the engine.
  24. Clean the oil pan thoroughly and inspect the oil pan gasket.
