WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Ford RV Cutaway, 2005 Ford Econoline, and 2005 Ford E450 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. X1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER VOLTAGE SUPPLY
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONNECTOR-PIN & CIRCUIT REFERENCE

      Instrument Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit
      C220a-5 1044 (WH/YE)
      C220b-1 729 (RD/WH)
      C220b-2 295 (LB/PK)
    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
    • Yes  : GO to  X2.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. X2 CHECK CIRCUITS 938 (BK/LG) AND 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220a-10, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground; and between the instrument cluster C220B-14, circuit 938 (BK/LG), harness side and ground.
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
    • Yes  : GO to  X3.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. X3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
