Transmission Control Switch/Transmission Control Indicator Light

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis, 2002 Lincoln Town Car, 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, 2001 Mercury Mountaineer, and 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Transmission Control Switch (TCS) is mounted on gearshift lever handle. Transmission Control Indicator Light (TCIL) is mounted on instrument panel. Switch controls operation of 4th gear. TCIL indicates overdrive cancel mode activated (light on) and EPC circuit shorted (light flashing) or monitored sensor failure. Malfunction of switch will cause lack of 4th gear disable function. To diagnose inoperative TCIL, see SYMPTOM TESTS  .
