Digital Transmission Range Sensor

The digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor is located on outside of transmission at manual lever. The TR sensor opens or closes a set of 4 switches that are monitored by the PCM. The internal switch signal corresponds with position of the transmission selector lever. The TR sensor completes the neutral/start and back-up light circuits. It also provides a neutral signal for Generic Electronic Module (GEM) control of 4x4 Low engagement on 4WD vehicles. Malfunction of the TR sensor may cause harsh engagements and firm shift feel. Improper shifting or shift selection and no engine cranking may also result.
