Removal and Installation

    All vehicles 

  1. Remove the RH fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  2. Loosen the clamp at the charge air cooler.

    3. NOTE: If there is any oil residue, clean both connecting ports and the inside surface of the charge air cooler duct to prevent the duct from blowing off.

  3. Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger and remove the charge air duct.
    4. NOTE: Only one wiring retainer shown.

  4. Disconnect the wiring retainers from the studs.
  5. Disconnect the glow plug controller electrical connectors.

  6. Disconnect the wire retainers.

  7. Remove the nuts and the glow plug controller.

  8. Disconnect the injection control pressure (ICP) sensor electrical connector.

  9. Remove the ICP sensor.

    10. Vehicle with automatic transmission 

    NOTE: Use a six-point socket squarely seated on the retaining nut for removal.

  10. Remove the retaining nut and position the transmission fluid indicator and tube assembly aside.
    • Discard the retaining nut.

    11. All vehicles 

    CAUTION: To prevent engine damage, do not use air powered tools when installing the valve cover.
    NOTE: The lower rear valve cover bolts are accessed from the wheel opening.
    NOTE: Mark the position of the valve cover bolts for valve cover bolt installation.

  11. Remove the eleven bolts and the valve cover. Clean and inspect the valve cover gasket and install a new gasket, if necessary.
  12. Remove the high pressure oil manifold to valve cover gasket.

  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install a new retaining nut on the transmission indicator tube.
