Keyless Entry Keypad

There are 2 types of keyless entry keypads available as an option. On all Excursion and F-Super Duty vehicles built after 12/03, the keyless entry keypad is wired directly to the vehicle security module. On F-Super Duty vehicles built before 12/03, the wireless keyless entry keypad uses an RF signal to communicate with the vehicle security module and takes place of one of the remote transmitters. Both keyless entry keypads are located on the exterior of the driver door and provide a method for the customer to access their vehicle without a key or remote transmitter. The keyless entry keypad feature:

locks all doors and inhibits the door lock control switch UNLOCK capability after 20 seconds (if the inhibit feature is enabled).
unlocks only the driver door.
unlocks all doors.
programs/erases customer key code.
enables/disables auto-locking (all Excursion and F-Super Duty vehicles built after 12/03).

The keyless entry keypad feature operates independently of ignition status, vehicle speed, or transmission position. When a keyless entry keypad button is pressed, the keyless entry keypad buttons illuminate to provide better visibility. If LOCK ALL DOORS is entered or 5 seconds have elapsed since the last button press, the illumination is turned off.

Each vehicle equipped with a keyless entry keypad is programmed with a 5-digit entry code. This code is provided to the customer through a wallet card in the Owner Literature package. In addition, this code is available through a diagnostic tool and is also printed on the vehicle security module label. When entering codes each digit must be entered within 5 seconds of the previous button press.

When the battery in the wireless keyless entry keypad (applies to F-Super Duty vehicles built before 12/03) is low and needs to be changed, the vehicle provides a warning by sequencing the unlock cycle differently. This indicates a low-battery condition.
