Oil Pan - Automated Equipment: Installation

All vehicles 

    NOTE: Clean and inspect the oil pump screen cover and tube mating surfaces and install a new O-ring. Lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil.
    NOTE: The oil pump screen and pickup tube must be in the oil pan when the oil pan is positioned in the vehicle.
  1. Position the oil pan gasket and the oil pan in the vehicle from the rear of the engine.
  2. Install the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
    1. Install and tighten the spacer.
    2. Insert the oil pump screen pickup tube into the oil pump and position the support bracket over the spacer.
    3. Install and tighten the bolts.

  3. NOTE: If not secure within four minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. To clean the sealing area, follow the directions provided on the packaging of the silicone gasket remover and the metal surface prep. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

  4. Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant where the front cover and rear crankshaft seal retainer fit to the engine block.
  5. NOTE: Be sure to tighten the bolts in two stages.
  6. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten an additional 60 degrees.

  7. Attach the transmission cooling tube bracket and install the nut.

  8. Lower the transmission.
  9. Loosely install the transmission mount nuts.

  10. Install the flywheel inspection plate.

  11. Position the engine oil cooler adapter and install the bolt.

  12. Install the oil bypass filter.
  13. Align the engine mount studs and lower the engine.
    • Remove the special tool.

  14. Install the engine mount nuts.

  15. Install a suitable transmission jack and support the transmission.

    Excursion vehicles 

  16. Remove the crossmember bolts.

  17. Remove the crossmember bolts.

  18. Remove the transmission mount nuts and the crossmember.

    F-Superduty 

  19. Remove the RH crossmember nuts.

  20. Remove the LH crossmember nuts.

  21. Remove the nuts and the crossmember.

    All vehicles 

  22. If the vehicle is equipped with TSS and turbine/OSS, remove the plugs and install the sensors in the transmission. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 4R100 or AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - TORQSHIFT .
  23. Position the exhaust Y-pipe and install the nuts on the exhaust manifold studs.

  24. Install the exhaust Y-pipe flange nuts.

  25. Connect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors.

  26. CAUTION: The large clutch assembly nut has a right-hand thread and must be rotated counterclockwise to remove it.

  27. Using the special tool, install the fan and fan clutch to the coolant pump pulley.
  28. Install the generator. Refer to GENERATORS & REGULATORS .
  29. Position back the throttle body adapter.
    • Position a new throttle body adapter gasket.
    • Position the throttle body adapter.
    • Install the four bolts and tighten in two stages.
      • Stage 1: Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
      • Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.

  30. Connect the IAC electrical connector and the bypass hose.
    • Install the bypass hose routing clip.

  31. Connect the vacuum hose.

  32. Connect the PCV tube and the vacuum hoses.

  33. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector.

  34. Install the accelerator cable bracket.
    • Position the bracket and cables.
    • Install the bolts.

  35. Connect the accelerator and speed control cables and return spring.

  36. Install the accelerator cable splash shield.

  37. Install the air cleaner outlet tube. Refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  38. Connect the battery cable.
  39. CAUTION: The oil pump must be primed prior to starting the engine.
  40. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
