Removal and Installation

All vehicles
- Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). Refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position.
- Remove the multi-function switch. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .
- Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Disconnect the clockspring electrical connectors.
Vehicles with 4-speed automatic transmission
- Remove the transmission range indicator from the steering column.
- Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the cable and position the range indicator aside.
Vehicles with 5-speed automatic transmission
- Remove the transmission range indicator from the steering column.
- Remove the nut.
- Disconnect the cable and position the range indicator aside.
All vehicles with automatic transmission
- Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column.
- Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
- Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column bracket.
- Disconnect the overdrive electrical connector.
All vehicles
- Disconnect the brake shift interlock electrical connector.
- Remove and discard the steering column shaft bolt.
- Secure the steering column to prevent rotation and damage of the clockspring.
- Remove the four nuts and the steering column.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Repower the SRS. Refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
