Manual Control Lever Shaft & Seal: Removal

ALL VEHICLES
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Disconnect the shift cable at the manual control lever shaft assembly.
- Disconnect the digital TR sensor connector.
- Remove the digital TR sensor.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the sensor.
VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A FLUID PAN DRAIN PLUG
- Remove the drain plug and allow the fluid to drain.
- Remove the transmission fluid pan and the gasket.
VEHICLES NOT EQUIPPED WITH A FLUID PAN DRAIN PLUG
- Drain the fluid and remove the transmission fluid pan and the gasket.
- Loosen, but do not remove, the bolts.
- Remove the front and side bolts.
- Lower the front of the fluid pan and allow the fluid to drain.
- Remove the remaining bolts and the fluid pan.
ALL VEHICLES
- Remove the filter and seal assembly by carefully pulling and rotating the filter as necessary.
- If the seal remains in the pump bore, remove it carefully with a small screwdriver so as not to scratch or damage the aluminum bore.
- Using the special tool, remove the manual lever shaft retaining pin.
- Remove the manual valve control lever shaft assembly.
- Remove the inner manual valve nut.
- Remove the inner manual valve detent lever.
- Remove the parking pawl actuating rod.
- Remove the manual valve control lever shaft assembly.
- Using the special tool, remove the manual control lever seal.
NOTE:
Do not discard the gasket unless damaged. This is a reusable gasket.

NOTE:
After removal, discard the filter and seal assembly.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to scratch or damage the aluminum bore or the new seal may leak.
NOTE:
A No. 53 drill bit (1/16-inch) can be used instead to remove the manual lever shaft retaining pin.

Be careful not to damage the manual control lever bore.
NOTE:
The manual control lever and manual control lever shaft are one piece.
NOTE:
Use a crescent wrench on the manual control lever or outer flats of manual control lever shaft assembly when removing the inner manual valve detent lever nut.
