Pinpoint Test Y: The Washer Pump Is In Operative
- Y1 CHECK CIRCUIT 1300 (VT) FOR GROUND
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the resistance between C1348-12, circuit 1300 (VT), harness side and ground while depressing the multifunction switch to the windshield wiper wash position.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to Y3.
No
GO to Y2.
- Y2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a.
- Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
Refer to COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.
- Did the multifunction switch pass the component test?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 1300 (VT) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .
- Y3 CHECK CIRCUIT 941 (BK/WH) FOR GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
- Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor C137.
- Measure the resistance between C137-2, circuit 941 (BK/WH) harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to Y4.
No
GO to Y8.
- Y4 CHECK CIRCUIT 946 (VT/LG) FOR GROUND
- Measure the resistance between C137-1, circuit 946 (VT/LG) harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to Y5.
No
GO to Y7.
- Y5 CHECK CIRCUIT 946 (VT/LG) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between C137-1, circuit 946 (VT/LG) harness side and ground while depressing the multifunction switch to the rear wiper wash position.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to Y6.
No
GO to Y9.
- Y6 CHECK CIRCUIT 941 (BK/WH) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect: Rear Window Wiper Motor C476.
- Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor C137.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between C137-2, circuit 941 (BK/WH) harness side and ground while depressing the multifunction switch to the windshield wiper wash position.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new washer pump motor. REFER to WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP AND RESERVOIR . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to Y9.
- Y7 CHECK CIRCUIT 946 (VT/LG) FOR OPEN
- Disconnect: Rear Wiper Motor C4171.
- Measure the resistance between C4171-7, circuit 946 (VT/LG), harness side and C137-1, circuit 946 (VT/LG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to Y9.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Y8 CHECK CIRCUIT 941 (BK/WH) FOR OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
- Measure the resistance between C1348-7, circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side and C137-2, circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to Y9.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Y9 CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
- Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
For the windshield wiper motor GO to Y10. For the rear window wiper motor GO to Y11.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Y10 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
- Carry out the WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR component test as outlined.
- Did the windshield wiper motor pass the component test?
Yes
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER .
- Y11 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR
- Carry out the REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR component test as outlined.
- Did the rear window wiper motor pass the component test?
Yes
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new rear window wiper motor. REFER to REAR WINDOW WIPER .
