Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the front axle, if equipped. For additional information, refer to DRIVELINE SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the stabilizer bar, if equipped. For additional information, refer to SUSPENSION SYSTEM .
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. If the oil pump is to be removed, remove the timing chains. For additional information, refer to ENGINE FRONT COVER, TIMING GEARS, CHAIN AND TENSIONERS .
  5. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.

    To remove individual parts, only carry out the listed steps: 

    PARTS REMOVAL STEPS SPECIFICATION

    Part Steps
    Oil pan 1-3
    Oil pump screen and pickup tube 1-7
    Oil pump 1-9

  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  7. Install the front axle, if equipped. For additional information, refer to DRIVELINE SYSTEM .
  8. Install the stabilizer bar, if equipped. For additional information, refer to SUSPENSION SYSTEM .
  9. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
  10. If the oil pump was removed, install the timing chains. For additional information, refer to ENGINE FRONT COVER, TIMING GEARS, CHAIN AND TENSIONERS .
