Anti-Lock Brake System

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is controlled by the anti-lock control module. The ABS control module receives wheel speed readings from each anti-lock brake sensor and uses the information to compare wheel speeds. By continuously monitoring and comparing the rotational speed of each wheel, the anti-lock brake control module activates the ABS only when it senses wheel lockup under severe braking conditions. The ABS control module decides which wheel is to be controlled and sends the appropriate signals to the Electronic Hydraulic Control Unit (EHCU). The anti-lock brake control module has self-diagnostics capabilities and stores Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in its memory. If a trouble code is present in the ABS control module memory, the Yellow ABS warning indicator will illuminate when the engine is running. The anti-lock brake control module is part of the EHCU and is located on left side of engine compartment, below master cylinder.
