Pinpoint Test C: The High Beams Are Inoperative

- C1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE HIGH BEAM INDICATOR
- Turn on the high beams.
- Does the high beam indicator illuminate?
- Yes : GO to C3.
- No : GO to C2.
- C2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
- Carry out the multifunction switch component test for the headlamps.
Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.
- Is the multifunction switch OK?
- Yes : GO to C4.
- No : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- Carry out the multifunction switch component test for the headlamps.
- C3 CHECK CIRCUIT 12 (LG/BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: SJB C2280a.
- Disconnect: LH Headlamp C1021.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280a pin 25, circuit 12 (LG/BK), harness side and the LH headlamp C1021 pin 1 circuit 12 (LG/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to C5.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C4 CHECK CIRCUIT 632 (GY/OG) FOR AN OPEN
- Connect: Multifunction Switch.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
- Place the headlamp switch to the headlamps ON position.
- Place the multifunction switch to the high beam position.
- Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280b pin 30, circuit 632 (GY/OG), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to C5.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
