Pinpoint Test B: The Low Beams Are Inoperative

  1. B1 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Carry out the multifunction switch component test for the headlamps.
    • Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.
    • Is the multifunction switch OK? 
    1. Yes  : GO to B2.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. B2 CHECK CIRCUIT 13 (RD/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Connect: Multifunction Switch.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280c.
    • Place the headlamp switch in the headlamps ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280c pin 30, circuit 13 (RD/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to B3.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. B3 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
