Pinpoint Test P: The Brake Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

- P1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTCS FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND SELF-TESTS
- Use the recorded instrument cluster DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
- Is DTC C1226 present?
- Yes : GO to P10.
- No : GO to P2
- P2 DETERMINE THE CONDITION
- Key in ON position.
- Apply and release the parking brake while monitoring the SJB parking brake switch PID.
- Do the PIDs agree?
- P3 CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Brake Switch C2015.
- Key in ON position.
- Observe the brake warning indicator.
- Did the brake warning indicator turn off?
- Yes : INSTALL a new parking brake switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to P4.
- P4 CHECK THE SJB
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280c.
- Key in ON position.
- Observe the brake warning indicator.
- Does the brake warning indicator turn off?
- Yes : GO to P5.
- No : GO to P6.
- P5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1309 (RD/YE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280c pin 17, circuit 1309, (RD/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to P17.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P6 CHECK CIRCUIT 977 (VT/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b pin 20, circuit 977 (VT/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to P16.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P7 CHECK CIRCUIT 570 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Brake Switch C2015.
- Measure the resistance between the parking brake switch C2015 pin 2, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to P8.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P8 CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE INPUT
- Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire between the parking brake switch C2015 pin 1, circuit 1309 (RD/YE), harness side and the parking brake switch C2015 pin 2, circuit 57 (BK) harness side.
- Key in ON position.
- Does the brake warning indicator illuminate?
- Yes : INSTALL a new parking brake switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REMOVE the jumper wire, Go to P9.
- P9 CHECK CIRCUIT 1309 (RD/YE) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Smart Junction Box (SJB) C2280c.
- Measure the resistance between the parking brake switch C2015 pin 1, circuit 1309 (RD/YE), harness side and the SJB C2280c pin 17, circuit 1309, (RD/YE), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to P17.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P10 CHECK THE ABS MODULE OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
- Key in ON position.
- Observe the brake warning indicator.
- Does the brake warning indicator turn on?
- Yes : GO to P18.
- No : GO to P11.
- P11 CHECK CIRCUIT 22 (LB/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b pin 16, circuit 22 (LB/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to P16.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P12 CHECK THE SJB
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire between the SJB C2280c pin 18, circuit 977 (VT/WH) harness side and ground.
- Key in ON position.
- Does the brake warning indicator illuminate?
- Yes : REMOVE the jumper wire, GO to P17.
- No : REMOVE the jumper wire, GO to P13.
- P13 CHECK CIRCUIT 977 (VT/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b pin 20, circuit 977 (VT/WH), harness side and the SJB C2280c pin 18, circuit 977, (VT/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to P16.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P14 CHECK THE ABS MODULE OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
- Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the ABS module C135 pin 27, circuit 22 (LB/BK), harness side and ground.
- Key in ON position.
- Observe the brake warning indicator.
- Does the brake warning indicator continue to illuminate?
NOTE: If the fuse fails, repair the circuit for a short to power.- Yes : GO to P15.
- No : GO to P18.
- P15 CHECK CIRCUIT 22 (LB/BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b pin 16, circuit 22 (LB/BK), harness side and the ABS module C135 pin 27, circuit 22, (LB/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to P16.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- P16 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the selftest.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test.
- P17 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- fPushed-out pins
- Connect all SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- P18 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect the ABS module connector.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect the ABS module connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK CONTROL . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the PCM self-test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
