Pinpoint Test L: The Left Rear Heated Seat Is Inoperative: Overview

  1. L1 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT SWITCH INPUT TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Left Rear Heated Seat Module C3162.
    • Measure the resistance between left rear heated seat module C3162-8, circuit 8-HC21 (WH/GN), harness side and ground and between C3162-11, circuit 10-HC21 (GY/OG), harness side and ground while pressing the heated seat switch.

    • Are the resistances less than 50 ohms when the heated seat switch is pressed and greater than 10,000 ohms when the heated seat switch is not pressed? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  L3.
    2. No  : GO to L2.
  2. L2 CHECK HEATED SEAT SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT 31-HC15 (BK/YE) 
    • Disconnect: Left Rear Heated Seat Switch C722.
    • Measure the resistance between left rear heated seat switch C722-1, circuit 31-HC15 (BK/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new heated seat switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 31-HC15 (BK/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. L3 CHECK CIRCUIT 30-HC21 (RD/GN) FOR VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE 
    • Measure the voltage between left rear heated seat module C3162-12, circuit 30-HC21 (RD/GN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L4.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 30-HC21 (RD/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. L4 CHECK CIRCUIT 20-HC21D (PK/BK) FOR VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between left rear heated seat module C3162-5, circuit 20-HC21D (PK/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L5.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 20-HC21D (PK/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. L5 CHECK HEATED SEAT MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT 31-HC15 (BK/YE) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between left rear heated seat module C3162-1, circuit 31-HC15 (BK/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L6.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 31-HC15 (BK/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. L6 CHECK THE SEAT CUSHION HEATER AND THE SEAT BACK HEATER CIRCUITS 
    • Measure the resistance between the left rear heated seat module C3162-6, circuit 20-HC17 (PK), harness side and C3162-7, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side; and between the left rear heated seat module C3162-6, circuit 20-HC17 (PK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 1.6 ohms and less than 10 ohms between C3162-6 and C3162-7 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C3162-6 and ground? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L7.
    2. No  : GO to  L12.
  7. L7 CHECK THE SEAT CUSHION HEATER AND THE SEAT BACK HEATER CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the left rear heated seat module C3162-6, circuit 20-HC17 (PK), harness side and ground and between C3162-7, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is voltage present on either circuit? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit 20-HC17 (PK), 31S-HC16 (BK/BU) or 20S-HC16 (PK/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to L8.
  8. L8 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Measure the voltage between the left rear heated seat module C3162-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and ground and between C3162-4, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is voltage present on either circuit? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to L9.
  9. L9 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CIRCUITS 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the left rear heated seat module C3162-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and C3162-4, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side; and between the left rear heated seat module C3162-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 300,000 ohms and greater than 50 ohms between C3162-3 and C3162-4 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C3162-3 and ground? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new left rear heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to L10.
  10. L10 CHECK CIRCUIT 9-HC23 (BN/YE) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Left Rear Seat Cushion Heater C3167.
    • Measure the resistance between the left rear heated seat module C3162-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and the left rear seat cushion heater C3167-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side; and between the left rear heated seat module C3162-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and the seat cushion heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L11.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
  11. L11 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-HC23 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between the left rear heated seat module C3162-4, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side and the left rear seat cushion heater C3167-2, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side; and between the left rear heated seat module C3162-4, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and the seat cushion heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new left rear seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
  12. L12 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-HC17 (WH/BU) FOR OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Left Rear Seat Cushion Heater C3167.
    • Measure the resistance between left rear heated seat module C3162-6, circuit 20S-HC17 (PK), harness side and left rear seat cushion heater C3167-1, circuit 20S-HC17 (PK), harness side; and between left rear heated seat module C3162-6, circuit 20S-HC17 (PK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 1 ohm between the heated seat module and the seat cushion heater, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L13.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 20S-HC17 (PK).TEST the system for normal operation.
  13. L13 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-HC16 (BK/BU) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Left Rear Seat Back Heater C3168.
    • Measure the resistance between left rear heated seat module C3162-7, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side and left rear seat back heater C3168-2, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side; and between left rear heated seat module C3162-7, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and the seat back heater, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L14.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
  14. L14 CHECK CIRCUIT 20S-HC16 (PK/BU) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between left rear seat cushion heater C3167-4, circuit 20S-HC16 (PK/BU), harness side and left rear seat back heater C3168-1, circuit 20S-HC16 (PK/BU), harness side; and between left rear seat cushion heater C3167-4, circuit 20S-HC16 (PK/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the seat cushion heater and the seat back heater, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the seat cushion heater and ground? 
    1. Yes  : GO to L15.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 20S-HC16 (PK/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
  15. L15 CHECK THE SEAT BACK HEATER 
    • Disconnect: Left Rear Seat Back Heater Connector.
    • Measure the resistance between left rear seat back heater pin 1 and pin 2, seat back heater component side.

    • Is the resistance between 0.6 and 0.9 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new left rear seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new left rear seat back heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
