Inspection and Verification

Verify the customer concern.

Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is correctly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.
If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
- SCP circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- No response/not equipped for the instrument cluster, Go To PINPOINT TEST F: NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE .
- No response/not equipped for the electronic parking brake module, refer to BRAKE SYSTEM .
- No response/not equipped for the RCM, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the instrument cluster.
If the DTCs retrieved from the RCM are related to the concern, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS . If the DTCs retrieved from the instrument cluster are related to the concern, go to the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index.
If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART .

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX B1342, B1317, B1318 & B2477)

B1352	Ignition Key-In Circuit Failure	Instrument Cluster	Go To PINPOINT TEST AT: THE KEY-IN-IGNITION CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY .
B1342	ECU Defective	Instrument Cluster	CLEAR and DOCUMENT the DTCs. CARRY OUT the instrument cluster self-test. INSTALL a new instrument cluster if the DTC B1342 is retrieved again. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
B1317	Battery Voltage Out of Range-High	Instrument Cluster	REPAIR the charging system. REFER to GENERATORS & REGULATORS .
B1318	Battery Voltage Out of Range-Low	Instrument Cluster	REPAIR the charging system. REFER to GENERATORS & REGULATORS .
B2477	Module Configuration Failure	Instrument Cluster	REPAIR the module configuration. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
