Pinpoint Test F: No Communication With The Instrument Cluster Module

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
  1. F1 CHECK HOT AT ALL TIMES POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220b-3, circuit 29-GG11 (OG/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
    1. Yes  : GO to F2.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. F2 CHECK HOT IN RUN POWER SUPPLY CIRCUITS
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster and ground as follows:
      CONNECTOR PINS CIRCUIT REFERENCE

      Connector Pin Circuit
      C220a-11 15-JA14 (GN/BK)
      C220b-6 15-GG14 (GN/RD)

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
    1. Yes  : GO to F3.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. F3 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUITS 91-GG11 (BN/RD) AND 31-AL11 (BK) FOR OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b-13, circuit 91-GG11 (BN/RD), harness side and ground; and between the instrument cluster C220a-6, circuit 31-AL11 (BK), harness side and ground.
