Oil Pan, Oil Pump, Oil Pump Screen and Pickup Tube: Material

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the radiator upper sight shield.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. For additional information refer to INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE ELECTRONICS - 3.0L (4V) .
4. Install the special tools.

5. Remove the steering gear. For additional information, refer to STEERING SYSTEM .
6. Remove the RH front splash shield, the LH front splash shield, and the front center splash shield.
7. Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATORS & REGULATORS .
8. Remove the A/C compressor. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM .
9. Drain the engine oil.
10. To remove individual components, only carry out the listed steps.

11. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table. See Fig 2.

12. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table. See Fig 3.

13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Item 4: Oil Pan Removal Note 

1. Remove the eight bolts and the two front I-braces.

2. Remove the LH lower control arm through-bolt.

3. Remove the RH lower control arm through-bolt.

4. Remove the LH and RH engine mount nuts.
5. Remove the LH subframe bolts.

6. Remove the RH subframe bolts.

7. Gently pry the subframe down and remove the oil pan.

Item 5: Oil Pan Gasket Removal Note 

CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of gasket material.
1. Discard the oil pan gasket.

Items 3, 4, and 5: Oil Pan Fasteners, Oil Pan, and Oil Pan Gasket Installation Note 

CAUTION: The oil pan must be installed and the bolts tightened within four minutes of the sealant application.

1. Apply a 10 mm (0.40 in) dot of silicone gasket and sealant to the oil pan gasket in the indicated positions.
2. Gently pry the subframe down and install the oil pan.

NOTE: Fasteners No. 4 and No. 9 are studs.

3. Position the oil pan and install the studs and bolts.
   • Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown. See Fig 13.
4. Install the RH subframe bolts.
