Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
    NOTE: Both circuits must be checked for each DTC.

  1. E1 - CHECK FOR A SHORT TO POWER
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
    • Disconnect: Suspect Wheel Speed Sensor.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ABS module C135 pins, harness side, and ground, as follows:

      C1145 (RF) 34 7-CF38 (YE/RD)
      C1155(LF) 45 7-CF32 (YE/BR)

      C1165 (RR) 42 8-CF40 (WH/GN)
      C1165 (RR) 43 7-CF40 (YE/GN)
      C1175(LR) 36 7-CF34 (YE/BU)

    • Is voltage present? 
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTC(s). REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : GO to E2.
  2. NOTE: Both circuits must be checked for each DTC.

  3. E2 - CHECK FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between ABS module C135 pins harness side and ground, as follows:

      C1165 (RR) 43 7-CF40 (YE/GN)
      C1175(LR) 36 7-CF34 (YE/BU)

    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      1. Yes  : GO to E3.
      2. No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. NOTE: Both circuits must be checked for each DTC.

  5. E3 - CHECK FOR AN OPEN
    • Measure the resistance between ABS module C135 pins, harness side and the suspect wheel speed sensor connector pins, harness side, as follows:

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
      1. Yes  : GO to E4.
      2. No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. E4 - CHECK FOR SHORTED WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUITS

    • Measure the resistance between the suspect wheel speed sensor pins.

    • Is the resistance greater 10,000 ohms? 
      1. Yes  : GO to E5.
      2. No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
  7. E5 - CHECK THE ABS MODULE OUTPUT

    • Connect: ABS Module C135.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the suspect wheel speed sensor pins, harness side.

    • Is the voltage less than 9 volts? 
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE  in this section. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : INSTALL a new wheel speed sensor. For the front wheel speed sensor, REFER to FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND SENSOR RING  in this section. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test. For the rear wheel speed sensor, REFER to REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND SENSOR RING  in this section. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
