Disc Brake Calipers & Pads: Installation

  1. Use "C" clamp and small block of wood or brake pad, to push caliper pistons into piston bore until it bottoms out if new pads are installed or if caliper was not overhauled. See Fig 1 . Install the brake caliper. Install the front brake hose bolt (if disconnected). Use NEW copper washers and connect the front brake hose.
  2. CAUTION: Ensure guide pin boots are correctly seated or damage to guide pins can occur.
  3. Install the disc brake caliper bolts. Tighten bolts to specification, tightening the lower caliper bolt first. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  5. Bleed the caliper or entire system (if necessary). See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM  .
  6. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with clean High Performance DOT 3 Motor Vehicle Brake Fluid (C6AZ-19542-AB), or equivalent DOT 3 fluid meeting Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A. Install brake master cylinder filler cap. Inspect the brake system operation.
