Master Cylinder

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Ford Windstar and 2002 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The brake master cylinder is a dual piston type. When the brake pedal is depressed, pressure is applied by mechanical linkage to the primary and secondary piston. Brake master cylinder pistons apply hydraulic pressure to the two hydraulic circuits. Brake master cylinder will not be overhauled. Install new only. The brake master cylinder consists of brake master cylinder reservoir and brake master cylinder body.

The brake master cylinder reservoir is mounted to the brake master cylinder. The reservoir holds fluid supply for each brake master cylinder hydraulic piston. The reservoir provides visual fluid level markings and contains the brake master cylinder fluid level sensor.
