Water Pump - 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L: Installation

- Install a new O-ring on the water pump. Coat the new O-ring with engine coolant.
- Install the water pump.
- Lubricate the new O-ring seal using engine coolant and install the O-ring seal onto the water pump.
- Position the water pump into the engine block.
- Install the bolts.
- Position the pulley onto the water pump and install the bolts.
- Install the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
- Install the fan and fan clutch. For additional information, refer to RADIATOR .
- Refill the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING .
CAUTION:
Some vehicle cooling systems are filled with Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant VC-4-A (in Oregon VC-5, in Canada CXC-10) or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A (green color). Others are filled with Motorcraft Premium Gold Coolant VC-7-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B51-A1 (yellow color). Always fill the cooling system with the same coolant that is present in the system. Do not mix coolant types.
CAUTION:
Do not rotate the water pump housing once the water pump has been positioned in the cylinder block. Damage to the O-ring seal will occur.
