Cylinder Head LH: Removal

ALL VEHICLES 

  1. Disconnect both battery ground cables. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  2. Remove the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  3. Remove the parking lamps and the headlamp assemblies. For additional information, refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTING .
  4. Remove the radiator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .

    VEHICLES WITH AIR CONDITIONING 

  5. Remove the A/C condenser. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING .

    ALL VEHICLES 

  6. Remove the radiator grille, radiator grille opening panel and the upper radiator support. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  7. Remove the turbocharger compressor manifold.
  8. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .

    E-250 - E-450 

  9. Disconnect the vacuum hose.

    ALL VEHICLES

  11. VEHICLES WITH AIR CONDITIONING 
  12. Disconnect the air conditioning manifold hoses.

  13. Disconnect the A/C electrical connector.

    ALL VEHICLES 

  14. Remove the A/C compressor or idler pulley mounting bracket retaining bolts and the mounting bracket.

  15. Using the special tool, remove the high pressure oil hose.

  16. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.

  17. Remove the valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER LH .
  18. Remove the rocker arms and push rods. For additional information, refer to ROCKER ARM COVER, ROCKER ARM AND PUSH ROD .
  19. Remove the fuel injectors. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEMS .
  20. Remove the inboard fuel injector hold-down bolts.

  21. Disconnect the fuel supply tube.

  22. Remove the 18 cylinder head bolts.

  23. Install the special tools.
    1. Position the special tool on the cylinder head.
    2. Install the bolts.
    3. Install the special tool.

  24. Remove the nuts and bolts from the exhaust manifold and the exhaust adapter pipe.

  25. With an assistant, lift the cylinder head and remove it from the vehicle.

  26. Clean and inspect the cylinder head mating surfaces.
