Drive Gear Backlash - All Gears: Inspection

  1. Remove the engine front cover. For additional information, refer to ENGINE .
    2. NOTE: Keep the other gears from moving while performing this procedure.
  2. Position the Dial Indicator tip on the sprocket tooth of the gear to be checked.
  3. Rotate the gear to remove backlash and zero in the Dial Indicator.
  4. If the reading exceeds service limits, install a new drive gear.
