Removal and Installation

NOTE: Noncommercial chassis shown, commercial chassis similar.

Turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

CAUTION: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can occur. If there is evidence that the steering column shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .

Remove the pinch bolt and detach the intermediate shaft from the steering gear.
Detach the intermediate shaft seal from the dash panel.

Remove the pinch bolt and detach the intermediate shaft from the coupler.
- Compress the shaft.

Remove the intermediate shaft dash panel seal.

Remove the intermediate shaft.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
