Test B: Air Bag Warning Light Circuit Open Or Short To Ground (DTC B1869): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mercury Monterey and 2004 Ford Freestar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

AIR BAG warning light is designed to illuminate for 6 seconds and then go out when ignition switch is turned to ON or START position, and no air bag faults exist. The air bag warning light will remain illuminated continuously after 3 cycles of a Light Flash Code (LFC), if a fault exists.

Restraints Control Module (RCM) monitors AIR BAG warning light for open and short to ground conditions. If RCM detects open or short to ground in AIR BAG warning light circuit, it will store DTC B1869 in memory.
