Removal & Installation

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
- Remove left front seat. See FRONT SEAT
. Pry outward on each side of RCM cover to disengage clips. Slide RCM cover rearward and remove cover. Pinch thumb tab and pivot connector position assurance lever away from RCM, disengaging the lever. See Fig 1
. Push down on retaining tab and disconnect small RCM harness connector. Remove RCM mounting bolts and RCM. See Fig 2
.CAUTION: RCM large harness connector can be improperly connected. Component or connector damage may result. When connecting RCM large connector, ensure connector position assurance lever is in full release position. Ensure connector is at proper angle when connecting to RCM. Do not push connector where connector position assurance lever pivots and seats itself. Use light pressure to get connector in position. Lightly push connector until subtle click and slight pressure is felt. Engage connector position assurance lever to fully seat connector.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten RCM bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators installed at all deployable devices, perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Disconnect battery(s). Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
