Symptom Chart - Transmission Cooling

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • Transmission overheating
  • Damaged oil-to-air (OTA) transmission fluid cooler
 
  • Damaged, blocked, reversed, leaking or restricted transmission fluid cooler tubes
  • INSPECT transmission fluid cooler tubes. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article for transmission fluid cooler tube backflushing and cleaning. REPAIR as required.
 
  • Incorrect transmission fluid level
  • CHECK and, if necessary, ADJUST the transmission fluid to the correct level. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
 
  • Transmission fluid condition
 
  • System leaks
 
  • Engine overheating
 
  • Excessive vehicle or towing loads, severe vehicle use
  • REFER to the vehicle specification manual for load and GVW/GCW information. REFER to the Owner's Literature.
 
  • Incorrect engine idle or driveability concerns
