Starter Current Draw Test

Ensure battery is fully charged. Set parking brake and place transmission in neutral. Ensure battery connections are clean and tight. Remove fuse No. 40 in central junction box. See Figure. Clamp inductive ammeter lead around all positive battery cables leading to starter. Crank engine for about 5 seconds and check amperage reading while cranking. See STARTER MOTOR SPECIFICATIONS . If amperage draw exceeds specification, replace starter.
