Torsion Bar: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove torsion bar cover plate bolts and cover plate. Measure and record depth of torsion bar adjustment bolt. See Fig 1 .

  2. Position Torsion Bar Tool (T95T-5310-AR) and adapters. Tighten torsion bar tool until torsion bar adjuster lifts off adjustment bolt.
  3. CAUTION: Torsion bar adjustment bolt is coated with dry adhesive, and must be replaced if it is backed off or removed. Failure to do so can cause adjustment bolt to loosen during operation and cause a loss of vehicle alignment.
  4. Remove torsion bar adjustment bolt and nut. Loosen torsion bar tool until tension is removed from torsion bar. Reference mark torsion bar and adjuster for proper installation. Remove torsion bar insulator. Grasp torsion bar, and pull it free from front suspension lower arm.
