Test H: Battery Leakage Or Damage

  1. Check For Acid Leakage & Damage

    Check for acid damage to both battery harnesses and cables. Is acid damage present? If yes, repair as necessary. If no, go to next step.
  2. Check Charging System For Overcharging

    Start engine and let idle. Turn all accessories off. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM. Measure voltage between primary battery terminals. Is the voltage greater than 15.5 volts? If yes, perform TEST G: SYSTEM OVERCHARGES (BATTERY VOLTAGE GREATER THAN 15 VOLTS) . If no, go to next step.
  3. Check Battery Mounting

    Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check mounting of both batteries. Are the batteries correctly mounted? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair as necessary.
  4. Check For Battery Contact

    Check both batteries for anything applying pressure to or rubbing against batteries. Is anything contacting the battery case? If yes, repair as necessary. If no, go to next step.
  5. Check Battery Case For Damage

    Check batteries for cracks and damage. Are the batteries okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace batteries as necessary.
  6. Check Battery Capacity

    Test condition of batteries. See BATTERY TEST WITH DIGITAL BATTERY ANALYZER under ON-VEHICLE TESTING. Are the batteries okay? If yes, system is operating properly at this time. If no, replace appropriate battery.
