Power Transfer Unit (PTU)

3.5L with AW21 transmission shown in illustration, 3.0L with 6F35 transmission similar.

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the RH catalytic converter. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (3.0L) and REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (3.5L) .
- Remove the 2 Power Transfer Unit (PTU)-to-support bracket bolts, then remove the 3 PTU support bracket bolts and the PTU support bracket.
- Remove the 5 PTU-to-transaxle bolts.
- Separate the PTU from the transaxle. Remove the PTU from the vehicle.
- Using a suitable tool, remove the compression seal and discard.NOTE: A new compression seal must be installed whenever the PTU is removed from the vehicle.
