Parking Brake

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The parking brake and actuation system consists of the following components:

The parking brake system is a mechanical system that activates a shoe-and-drum parking brake within the rear brake disc.

The parking brake system is cable-actuated and controlled by an independent pedal-operated parking brake control. The parking brake control applies tension to the front parking brake cable and conduit. The front parking brake cable is coupled to the LH rear parking brake cable and conduit which is coupled to the RH rear parking brake cable. The parking brake cable and conduits actuate the parking brake levers, engaging the parking brake shoes with the parking brake drum and hat assembly. The parking brake warning indicator is located in the instrument cluster. It illuminates to signal the driver that the parking brake is applied or to signal a low brake fluid condition. The warning indicator system is diagnosed in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) AND WARNING CHIMES article.

The parking brake cable system tension is self-adjusting.
