Manual Control Lever Shaft and Seal: Installation

NOTE:
The remote filter and the previous design sump filter are both replaced by a high-efficiency sump filter, which requires a wider and deeper bottom pan. Always pair the sump filter with the correct bottom pan design, to avoid cavitation, filter cracking and transmission damage.

- Using the Shift Shaft Fluid Seal Installer, install the manual control lever seal.
- Loosen the 2 bolts on the Transmission Range (TR) sensor.
- Install the manual control lever shaft.
- Install the manual valve detent lever shaft retaining pin into the case.
- Install a new manual valve detent lever shaft retaining pin.
- Tighten the TR sensor bolts.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Install the transmission fluid pan, gasket and filter. For additional information, refer to Fluid Pan, Gasket and Filter .
- Connect the selector lever cable end to the manual control lever.
- Adjust the selector lever cable. Verify that the vehicle starts in PARK and NEUTRAL and the reverse lamps illuminate in REVERSE. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS article.
NOTE:
Prior to installing the manual control lever seal, clean the bore opening with mineral spirits.
NOTE:
Leave a small portion of the pin exposed.
NOTE:
When the retaining pin is installed correctly, 2 mm (0.08 in) of the pin will be exposed.
