Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is a thermistor device in which resistance changes with temperature change. The resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increases, and the resistance increases as the temperature decreases. The IAT provides air temperature information to the PCM which is used to determine transmission line pressure and shift scheduling.
