Pinpoint Test C: Unusual Starter Noise

  1. C1 CHECK THE STARTER MOTOR MOUNTING 
    • Inspect the starter motor mounting brackets for cracks.
    • Check the starter motor mounting bolts for looseness.
    • Is the starter motor mounted correctly? 
    1. YES  : Go to  C2.
    2. NO  : REINSTALL the starter motor correctly.
  2. C2 INSPECT THE STARTER MOTOR 
    • Remove the starter motor.
    • Inspect the starter motor for damage.
    • Is the starter motor damaged? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new starter motor. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : CHECK the starter drive. REFER to Component Tests , Starter Motor - Drive Pinion Test. INSTALL a new starter motor. TEST the system for normal operation.
