Principles of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The oil pump draws oil from the oil pan through the oil pickup tube and passages in the upper oil pan and the engine front cover. Pressurized oil then passes through the oil cooler, oil filter and is supplied to the turbocharger, engine and reservoir for the high-pressure oil system. The oil then drains back to the oil pan.

For diagnosis and testing of the electronic engine control system, refer to the appropriate Engine Performance article.
