Valve Cover - RH, 5.4L: Installation

  1. Apply instant gel adhesive completely around the gasket groove in the valve cover. Install the new valve cover gasket.

    NOTE: If not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 4 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
  3. Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant in 2 places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.

  5. Position the valve cover on the cylinder head and loosely install the fasteners.
  6. Tighten the fasteners in the sequence shown.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  8. Position the fuel charging wiring harness and connect the retainers to the valve cover studs.
  9. Connect the fuel pressure and temperature sensor electrical connector.

  11. Connect the 4 RH fuel injector electrical connectors.

    NOTE: Prior to installation, check the condition of the transmission fluid filler tube O-ring. If damaged, install a new O-ring.
  13. Position the transmission fluid filler tube into the transmission and install the nut and bolt.
    • Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
    • Tighten the nut to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).

  15. Install the transmission fluid level indicator.

  17. Position the bracket and the ground strap and install the nut.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

    NOTE: Rotate the PCV valve clockwise to lock it in place.
  19. Install the PCV valve, position the PCV tube and connect the quick connect couplings. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL article.
  20. Connect the oil fill tube.

  22. Install the engine oil filler tube support bracket bolt.
    • Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

  24. Install the 4 RH ignition coils. For additional information, refer to ENGINE IGNITION - 4.6L (2V) AND 5.4L (2V) article.
  25. Install the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION article.
  26. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe and the engine ACL. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
