Valve Cover - RH, 4.6L: Removal

- Remove the engine air cleaner (ACL) and the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
- Remove the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION article.
- Remove the LH engine support insulator. For additional information, refer to Engine Support Insulators .
- Using a wood block to support the engine, slowly lower the engine and remove the jack.
- Disconnect the quick connect couplings and remove the PCV tube. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL article.
- Disconnect the PCV valve electrical connector.
- Remove the PCV valve from the valve cover.
- Remove the oil fill tube support bracket bolt.
- Remove the clamp and the oil filler tube.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the bracket. Remove the nut, ground strap and bracket.
- Disconnect the wiring harness retainer from the heater outlet tube stud bolt.
- Remove the fuel charging wiring harness from the valve cover studs and position aside.
- Remove the RH valve cover.
- Fully loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.
- Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Inspect the valve cover gasket. If the gasket is damaged, remove and discard the gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
CAUTION:
Do not use the oil pan to support the engine or damage to the oil pan may occur.
NOTE:
Rotate the PCV valve counterclockwise to remove.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to clean sealing surfaces.
