WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- T1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect the trailer from the vehicle.
- Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.
- For the 4-pin connector, measure the voltage between the trailer tow C4098-2, circuit 962 (BN/WH), harness side and ground.
- For the 7-pin connector, measure the voltage between the trailer tow C4099-6, circuit 962 (BN/WH), component side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : The vehicle is operating correctly. SEND the trailer to an authorized camper/trailer repair facility.
- NO : Go to T2.
- T2 CHECK THE TRAILER TOW PARKING LAMP RELAY
- Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
- Disconnect: Trailer Tow Parking Lamp Relay
- Substitute a known good relay and recheck the trailer tow parking lamp operation.
- Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.
- Do the trailer tow parking lamps operate correctly?
- YES : REMOVE the known good relay. INSTALL a new trailer tow parking lamp relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : REMOVE the known good relay. Go to T3.
- T3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1043 (DG/YE) FOR AN OPEN
- Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
- Measure the voltage between the trailer tow parking lamp relay pin 3, circuit 1043 (DG/YE), BJB face side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to T4.
- NO : VERIFY the BJB fuse 24 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- T4 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the trailer tow parking lamp relay pin 2, circuit 57 (BK), BJB face side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to T5.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- T5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TRAILER PARKING LAMP RELAY
- Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the trailer tow parking lamp relay pin 1, circuit 14 (BN), BJB face side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : REPAIR circuit 962 (BN/WH) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 14 (BN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
