Wheel Knuckle - Disc Brakes: Removal

All vehicles 

  1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES article.
  2. All wheel drive (AWD) vehicles 

    NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.
  3. Remove and discard the wheel hub nut.
  4. Remove the parking brake shoes. For additional information, refer to PARKING BRAKE AND ACTUATION article.
  5. AWD vehicles 

  6. Remove the parking brake cable bracket bolt.
  7. Release the rear parking brake cable end from the parking brake actuator lever and compress the cable conduit locking tabs.
  8. Remove the parking brake shoes. For additional information, refer to PARKING BRAKE AND ACTUATION article.
  9. CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to separate the outer constant velocity (CV) joint from the hub. Damage to the threads and internal CV joint components can result.
  10. Using the special tools, separate the outer CV joint from the wheel hub.

    Vehicles with ABS 

  12. Remove the ABS wheel speed sensor bolt and the 2 ABS wheel speed sensor harness bolts.
  13. Remove and position the wheel speed sensor and harness aside.
  14. All vehicles 

  15. Remove the coil spring. For additional information, refer to Spring .
  16. Remove and discard the lower ball joint nut.
  17. CAUTION: The joint area must be free of foreign material to make sure of correct clamping.
  18. Index-mark the notch on the cam nut adjustment cam.
  19. Remove and discard the wheel knuckle bolt.
  20. Remove and discard the cam nut.
  21. Remove the wheel knuckle.
