Wheel Bearing - Front Wheel Drive (FWD): Removal

All wheel drive (AWD) vehicles 

1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES article.
NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.
2. Remove and discard the wheel hub nut.
3. Remove the parking brake shoes. For additional information, refer to PARKING BRAKE AND ACTUATION article.
CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to separate the outer constant velocity (CV) joint from the hub. Damage to the threads and internal CV joint components can result.
4. Using the special tools, separate the outer CV joint from the wheel hub.

Front wheel drive (FWD) vehicles 

5. Remove the brake disc or brake drum. For additional information, refer to REAR DISC BRAKE article for disc brakes or DRUM BRAKE article for drum brakes.
6. Remove and discard the wheel hub nut.
7. Remove the ABS wheel speed sensor ring.

All vehicles 

8. Using the special tools, remove the wheel hub.

NOTE: This step may not be necessary if the inner wheel bearing race remains in the wheel knuckle after removing the wheel hub.
9. Using the special tool, press the inner wheel bearing race from the wheel hub.

10. Remove the wheel bearing snap ring from the wheel knuckle.

AWD vehicles 

11. Remove the wheel knuckle. For additional information, refer to Wheel Knuckle - Disc Brakes .

FWD vehicles 

12. Using the special tools, remove the wheel bearing from the wheel knuckle.

AWD vehicles 

13. Using the special tools, press the wheel bearing race from the wheel knuckle.
