WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Mercury Mariner and 2008 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. A1 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP45 (YE) AND SBB10 (YE/RD) FOR VOLTAGE
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between windshield wiper motor C125-5, circuit SBB10 (YE/RD), harness side and ground; and between windshield wiper motor C125-8, circuit CBP45 (YE), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
    1. YES  : Go to  A2.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the battery junction box (BJB) fuse 10 (30A) and smart junction box (SJB) fuse 45 (5A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. A2 CHECK CIRCUITS GD120 (BK/GN) AND GD123 (BK/GY) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between windshield wiper motor C125-6, circuit GD120 (BK/GN), harness side and ground; and between windshield wiper motor C125-3, circuit GD123 (BK/GY), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  A3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. A3 CHECK THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH
    • Disconnect: Multi-Function Switch C202
    • Carry out the Multi-Function Switch Component Test. Refer to appropriate COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Did the multi-function switch pass the component test?
    1. YES  : Go to  A4.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new multi-function switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  4. A4 CHECK CIRCUIT GD114 (BK/BU) FOR AN OPEN
    • Measure the resistance between multi-function switch C202-15, circuit GD114 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.
    • Fig 3: Measuring Resistance Between Multi-Function Switch C202-15, Circuit GD116 (BK/VT) & Ground

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  A5.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. A5 CHECK FOR SHORTS IN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR HARNESS
    • Measure the resistance at the windshield wiper motor electrical connector between the circuits shown in the table.
Windshield Wiper Motor C125 Windshield Wiper Motor C125
      Pin 10, circuit CRW19 (BU/OG) Pin 11, circuit CRW18 (VT/WH)
        Pin 1, circuit CRW08 (VT/OG)
        Pin 9, circuit CRW17 (GN/VT)
      Pin 11, circuit CRW18 (VT/WH) Pin 1, circuit CRW08 (VT/OG)
        Pin 9, circuit CRW17 (GN/VT)
      Pin 1, circuit CRW08 (VT/OG) Pin 9, circuit CRW17 (GN/VT)
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms for all measurements?
    1. YES  : Go to  A6.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. A6 CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
    • Disconnect all windshield wiper motor connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all the windshield wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?
    1. YES  : Go to  A7.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. A7 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125
    • Carry out the Windshield Wiper Motor Component Test as outlined in this article.
    • Did the windshield wiper motor pass the component test?
    1. YES  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield .
