Spare Tire Carrier: Installation

  1. Install the lift assembly to the vehicle underbody.
    • Align the hook on the back of the lift assembly with the notch in the vehicle underbody.
  2. NOTE: Do not tighten the bolts.
  3. Loosely install the 3 lift retaining bolts.
  4. Install the shaft.
    • Insert the shaft through the rear bumper cover.
  5. Install the shaft retaining pin on the lift assembly.
  6. Tighten the 3 lift retaining bolts.
    • Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  7. Position the spare wheel and tire assembly on the lift.
  8. NOTE: Do not use air tools to raise the spare wheel and tire assembly into position.
  9. Using a suitable tool, raise the spare wheel and tire assembly.
  10. After raising the spare wheel and tire assembly into position, continue to rotate the shaft using a suitable tool until the internal clutch in the lift assembly is overridden at least one time.
