Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 13 other vehicles, including the 2004 Ford Pickup, 2004 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2004 Ford F450 Super Duty, 2004 Ford Excursion, and 2003 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove disc brake caliper and brake pads. See DISC BRAKE CALIPERS & PADS .
  2. NOTE: Forward-of-axle rear disc brake caliper anchor plates are mounted using stud bolts.
  3. Remove the bolts and the rear disc brake caliper anchor plate.
  4. To install, position the rear disc brake caliper anchor plate. Install the bolts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . On F450 & F550 with forward-of-axle mounted calipers, tighten bolts in sequence shown in 3 stages. See Fig 1:

    • Stage 1

      Tighten bolt 1 to 295 Ft. Lbs. (400 N.m).
    • Stage 2

      Using a suitable crowfoot socket, tighten bolt 2 to 100 Ft. Lbs. (136 N.m).
    • Stage 3

      Mark the rear disc brake caliper anchor plate and bolt 2. Tighten bolt 2 an additional 1/8 to 1/4 turn.
  5. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
