Removal & Installation (6.8L)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect negative battery cable. On vehicles with dual batteries, see DUAL BATTERIES  under MISCELLANEOUS. Remove 4 air cleaner assembly bolts and loosen air cleaner outlet pipe clamp. Position air cleaner assembly to gain access to Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor electrical connector and disconnect MAF sensor electrical connector. Remove air cleaner assembly. Disconnect 2 hoses on air cleaner outlet pipe, loosen clamp at throttle body and remove air cleaner outlet pipe.
  2. Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock couplings. See FUEL LINE CONNECTORS .
  3. Disconnect fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose and 10 fuel injector electrical connectors.
  4. Disconnect Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connector and remove wiring harness from air cleaner vent tube bracket.
  5. Remove Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve from the right valve cover and position valve and hose aside. Disconnect vapor, vacuum and electrical connections from the vapor management valve.
  6. Remove transmission fluid level indicator tube bracket retaining nut and position tube aside.
  7. Remove retainers from fuel charging wiring harness and position wiring harness away from fuel injection supply manifold. Remove 4 fuel injection supply manifold retaining bolts and remove fuel injection supply manifold and the fuel injectors as an assembly. Remove fuel injectors from fuel injection supply manifold and discard "O" ring seals.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Instal NEW "O" ring seal on fuel injectors and lubricate with clean engine oil. Be sure fuel injectors and fuel injection supply manifold are fully seated. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
