Removal (Upper Intake & Intake Manifold Spacer Assembly)

NOTE: It is not necessary to partially drain the cooling system if only the upper intake manifold is being removed.

Disconnect negative battery cable. On vehicles with dual batteries, see DUAL BATTERIES under MISCELLANEOUS. Partially drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner outlet tube. Remove engine cover. See ENGINE COVER under MISCELLANEOUS.
To remove upper intake manifold, disconnect and/or remove the following:
- Accelerator cable and speed control cable, if equipped, from retaining clip.
- Accelerator control splash shield clip push pin and accelerator control splash shield. Discard clip push pin.
- Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connector and remove IAC valve assembly.
- Accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable, if equipped, from throttle body.
- Accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable, if equipped, from cable bracket.
- Spark plug wire holders. Note position and remove spark plug wires if necessary.
Remove 12 bolts and remove upper intake manifold.
To remove intake manifold spacer assembly, disconnect and/or remove the following items:
- Throttle Position (TP) sensor.
- Brake booster vacuum hose.
- Vapor Management Valve (VMV) hose.
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose.
- Heater water hoses at intake manifold.
- Retaining nut at intake manifold and position transmission oil level tube bracket out of the way.
- Intake manifold vacuum connector, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) solenoid electrical and vacuum connectors.
Remove 8 bolts and remove intake manifold spacer assembly.
