Valve Cover: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.
  1. Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces.
  2. NOTE: Clean and inspect the gasket. Install a new gasket, if necessary.
  3. Install the valve cover, gasket and retainers.
    • Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  5. Position the wiring harness and attach all of the wiring harness retainers to the valve cover studs.
  6. Position the power steering tube and bracket.
    • Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  7. Position the accelerator control cable and brackets.
    • Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  8. Attach the vacuum tube and the pin-type retainer to the intake manifold.
  9. Connect the CHT sensor electrical connector.
  10. Connect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor electrical connector.
  11. Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
  12. Install the coolant vent tube, brackets and nuts.
    • Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  13. Connect the crankcase vent hose.
  14. Install the ignition coil-on-plugs. For additional information, refer to ENGINE IGNITION - 2.3L article.
